A customer within Mailchimp is someone who has made a purchase within TRYTN after connecting your TRYTN account to Mailchimp. In some cases on the public booking engine a customer will be created for carts if the user is known. Due to how Mailchimp designed their integration Customer data is sent to Mailchimp in a few different pushes. Initially when a Customer is created the following information is sent to Mailchimp:
- Address
- Country (Code)
- Country (Name)
- Business Id (your unique TRYTN identifier)
- Customer Id (unique to the customer)
- First name (see note below)
- Email address
- Last name (see note below)
- Opt In Status - true/false, true if user checks box during checkout to opt in to communications (see note below)
A note about first and last name: the TRYTN system only collects "full name" during purchase. Because of this the system can only safely send first and last name if the full name consists of two words (e.g. John Smith.) Any more or less words (e.g. Cher or John Quincy Adams, etc.) will not result in a first and last name being sent to Mailchimp.
A note about opt in status: the TRYTN Mailchimp integration enforces an opt-in model. This means that no customer is opted in to communications unless they explicitly check a box during checkout stating they want to opt in. Those Customers who do not opt in are created in your audience list as non-subscribed status. They will persist that status unless the make another purchase and check the opt in checkbox. A customer can go from non-subscribed to subscribed but cannot go from subscribed to non-subscribed. This is a rule with Mailchimp. Once subscribed a user can only go to unsubscribed.
After the initial Customer record is created an additional call is made to assign Tags to that Customer. Data points on Source, Affiliate, Tracking Source Code, and OTA will all be included as tags to the Customer.
After Tags are added to the Customer, another call is made to assign Interests and additional meta data to the Customer. This additional data includes:
- Language code
- Interests
- PHONE merge field
