Contacts are probably the single most important component of the Mailchimp integration with TRYTN. With contacts you can segment, target, market to, communicate with, and view detailed reports all based on Contacts. A contact is created or updated depending on if they already exist in your audience list or not. Every purchase that contains an email address will create a contact, however the status of the contact differs depending on the action taken by the customer at time of purchase.
In some cases a customer may be created or updated based on a cart, if the user is known while interacting with the cart. In these instances the status of the customer is always non-subscribed unless the customer already exists in your audience and has already subscribed previously.
The TRYTN integration will only ever send two possible statuses: subscribed and non-subscribed. By default all customers created are created with the non-subscribed status. The TRYTN Mailchimp integration works off an opt-in model and therefore customers must take an action in order to opt into communications.
Additional data is also attached to Contacts by way of Tags, Interests and Interest Categories, Merge Fields, and other meta data. Some contacts may also be populated with location data such as city, state, and country. Note that TRYTN utilizes third-party analysis tools to better determine the location of a customer and this information may not be 100% accurate as it is based on where the customer is at the time of purchase. Address and location information is only populated for direct bookings.
TRYTN-supported status definitions
Status | Description |
subscribed | Only those customers who explicitly opt in using the checkbox during checkout receive this status. |
non-subscribed | (Default) All customers who do not check the opt-in checkbox receive this status. |
A contact will continue to be non-subscribed until they explicitly check the opt in checkbox and then become subscribed. While a non-subscribed status can become subscribed, a subscribed contact cannot later become a non-subscribed status. Once subscribed they can become unsubscribed.
