Types of Promotions
TRYTN currently supports three types of promotions: Percent, Flat Rate and Buy One Get One Percentage Off.
Percent
The most common promotion type is the percentage-based promotion. In this scenario, the user will receive a calculated amount off based on a percentage. At purchase, this type of promotion reduces the entire cart by this calculated percentage amount.
Example: If a user enters a 10% off promotion code from their $100 purchase, they will only pay $90 (plus taxes and fees).
Flat Rate
Flat rate promotions are used to take a specific, static amount off of a purchase. At purchase, this type of promotion deducts the value amount you determine from the cart total.
Example: Perhaps you want to offer users the ability to save $10 on a purchase and you create a promotion for this. A user entering your promotion code on a $200 purchase would only pay $190 (plus taxes and fees).
Buy One Get One Percentage Off
For this type of promotion, customers are encouraged to purchase multiples of a product in order to unlock a discount. In this instance, as long as the user purchases multiples of two for an item (i.e., an even number of items) they will receive a percentage-based discount on the second item purchased.
Note: When this promotion is used for multiple participants attending the same event, participants must have the same pricing selected in order to be eligible.
Example: Let's assume a user adds three (3) adult participants to the 4 Hour Dive activity at $100 each, and enters in a promotion code for Buy One Get One Percentage Off. In this case, the original total would be $300 (3 x $100). If the promotion code gives the user 50% off, the promotional price will break down as follows:
Participant 1: $100.00 (full price)
Participant 2: $ 50.00 (50% discount added)
Participant 3: $100.00 (full price)
TOTAL: $ 250.00
Note: If a 4th participant was added to the scenario above, Participant 4 would receive the 50% discount, and that ticket would cost $50.
More promotion types may be supported in the future. If your business has a use case that is not currently supported, please open a support ticket and we may be able to help.
Create a Promotion
To create a promotion, log into your TRYTN account and navigate to Products > Settings > Promotions > Create Promotions (shown below).
Promotion Settings
All fields under Promotion Settings are required to create a promotion. A description of each field is included below to help you complete the form.
- Promotion Code: In this field, include the code your customers will enter at the time of purchase to retrieve this promotion. As a best practice, we recommend using all UPPERCASE letters without any spaces or special characters; this helps minimize user errors when entering a code for purchase. (Examples: EXTRA10 or BOGO25).
- Description: For the Description field, you should provide a brief explanation of your promotion, including what it is and what it can be used for. When applied successfully, the description will display to the customer when shopping your product(s), as well as within confirmation emails. (Example: Save 10% on all merchandise this October!).
- Type: The Type field refers to the 'promotion type' you want to use. There are currently three types of promotions available: Percent, Flat Rate and Buy One Get One Percentage Off. For details on each of these promotion types, see Types of Promotions.
-
Amount: The Amount field refers to the amount of discount applied to your promotion and is based on the promotion type you selected in the previous field:
Flat Rate
-
-
-
- If you selected a Flat Rate promotion type, the amount you enter will show up as a fixed dollar amount off of the purchase price, when applied.
- Example: Enter 5 for a $5 discount.

-
-
-
- If you selected either the Percent or Buy One Get One Percentage Off promotion type, the number you enter will indicate the percentage discount to be applied.

Promotion Criteria
Under Promotion Criteria, you have the ability to assign product eligibility and set restrictions on the use of your promotion. Fields in this section are not required to create a promotion.
5. Eligible Products:
The Eligible Products field allows you to determine which products are valid for your promotion. By default, this field is blank, which means ALL products are eligible. If you wish to make the promotion valid for only certain products, you must select them here.
Simply click on the blank field to choose from a list of your active products. Repeat this action until you have added all applicable products. Added products will appear in green and can be deselected by clicking on the "x," if needed.
6. Valid Event Date Range (For Scheduled Activities Only)
For scheduled activities, you have the option to restrict a promotion based on the dates of an activity. By default, these fields are blank, meaning the promotion is valid for ALL activity dates.
In a scenario where a promotion is only valid for activities between 10/1 to 10/7, for example, you must elect these dates here. If the customer purchases an applicable activity for a date that falls within the window you set, the promotion will apply.

8. Save Changes: Once all required fields (marked with an asterisk) have been completed, click Save Changes to activate your promotion. Once saved, the promotion code can be added with the purchase of any applicable TRYTN product(s). Selecting Cancel will discard your changes and your promotion will not be created.
Creating a Promotion as a Negative Add-on
Another way to create a promotion is by assigning a negative add on to a product. You first need to create the negative add on by going to Products > Settings > Add on
Type in a negative amount and choose percent for a discount. For example: a Holiday Discount for 20% off was created in the image below.
After the negative add-on is created, assign it as a "required add-on" to the product of your choice.
Product > Advanced Settings > Add on > choose the "unselected add-on and move it the "selected add on" column on the right. Then click "require add-on to be purchased" (see image below)
Edit an Existing Promotion
To modify an existing promotion, navigate to Products > Settings > Promotions from your TRYTN account. Locate the promotion you wish to edit from either the Active Promotions or Archived Promotions table.
For Archived Promotions:
You must click Actions > Restore to make the promotion active before you will be able to make edits.
For Active Promotions:
Select Edit from the Actions menu. You will then be presented with a form showing all current settings for your promotion. As you make edits, see our Create a Promotion topic for more information on each input field.
Archive Promotions
To archive an existing promotion, log into your TRYTN account and navigate to Products > Settings > Promotions. Under the Active Promotions table, find the promotion you want to archive and then select Archive from the associated Actions menu. The promotion will then be removed from the active section and placed under the archived section on this page.
What happens when I archive a promotion?
Archiving a promotion prevents it from being used by a customer during purchase, regardless of the expiration date entered when the promotion was created.
How do I reactivate an archived promotion?
If you need an archived promotion in the future, you can easily reactivate it. Simply locate the promotion in the Archived Promotions table and click Actions > Restore. The promotion will be added back into the active section and available for use on your products.
IMPORTANT: Active promotions that have expired will not be valid for use. You must edit your promotion to update the date range before the promotion code can be used.
Translate Promotions
Translating your promotion can be important if you receive business from other countries or from customers who speak other languages. This increases user engagement and makes it easier for your customers to utilize promotions through your shop.
How Translations Work for your Customers
When a user selects a different language (or enters the booking process with a specific language), the translated content will be present. Any content not translated will be presented to the user in English.
How to Translate your Promotions
See Publish Shop Content in Other Languages for details on how to translate your promotions.
Assign Eligible Products to a Promotion
To add a specific product to an active promotion, start by navigating to Products > Settings > Promotions from your TRYTN account.
Locate the promotion in the list of Active Promotions, select the associated Actions menu, and click Edit.
From the Edit Promotions page, locate the section titled Eligible Products (shown below).
The Eligible Products field allows you to determine which products are valid for your promotion. By default, this field is blank, which means ALL products are eligible. If you wish to make a promotion valid for only certain products, you must select them here.
Simply click on the blank field to choose from a list of your active products. Repeat this action until you have added all applicable products. Added products will appear in green and can be deselected by clicking on the "x," if needed.
Once all required fields (marked with an asterisk) have been completed, click Save Changes to activate your change.
Frequently Asked Questions about Promotions
Does a promo code need to be unique?
Yes, you are not able to use a promo code for multiple types of promotions.
Are promo codes case-sensitive?
As a best practice, we recommend using UPPERCASE letters without any spaces or special characters when creating your promo codes, however, you have the ability to use lowercase letters, as well. To minimize any issues around capitalization when users enter a code, we also recommend avoiding mixed cases for your promo codes. Some good examples of simple, straightforward promo codes are BOGO50 or SAVE10.
Can a promo be applied to specific product(s)?
Yes, you have the ability to restrict promotions to specific products only. To do this, select one or more products under the Eligible Events section when creating (or editing) your promotion.
